ItemQuery is a very simple and thus very light addon for querying item information by ID. (You can obtain item IDs from various WoW database sites.)
To query information for an item, simply type '/item '. If the item was found within your cache, it will be displayed as a standard item link, and you will be able to click the item to display a tooltip, shift-click to link into a chat channel or ctrl-click to try the item on. If an item is not found within your cache, you will be given an option to query the server for the item information. If successful, a tooltip will appear for the item, and the item will be added to your local cache and should be safe to link in the future. If the query is unseccessful (meaning the server doesn't have any information for the item because the item has not yet dropped on the server), you will be disconnected. (This will mean nothing but a minor inconvenience; you will not be penalized for attempting to query missing information from the server.)
