  Getting Started
Heres what Ive learned from playing WoW. Read as much or as little as you want of this, you may want to find some things out for yourself.

1. Starting the game:
When you start up the game you can choose what server you would like to be on. The server you choose is important because you can not communicate with players on different servers. There are three types of servers: PVP(Player versus player), normal, and RP(role-playing). On PVP servers there are contested zones where you can attack and be attacked by players of the opposing faction. Normal servers are servers where you can only engage in PVPing in the battlegrounds(zones specifically designed for warfare.) Then you choose if you want to be Horde or Alliance. There is a lot of history in WoW that I havent read into, but basically the alliance is the good guys while the horde is the bad guys. Each Faction has four playable races. Horde: Tauren (me), Undead, Orc or Troll. Alliance: Night Elf, Gnome, Dwarf, and Human. Within these ranks you choose what class you want to be. The classes are: Warlock, Shaman(horde only), Warrior, Hunter, Mage, Priest, Paladin (Alliance Only), Rogue, and Druid. Depending on what race you choose there are only certain classes you can be. For example, Taurens are huge bulls, so they cant be rogues. Also each race has unique attributes. Taurens get some resistance to Nature spells and Warstomp, Undead get Cannibalism, and Night Elves get wisp and an ability that lets them go invisible while they stand still. Classes also decide what weapons you can use. For example: Shamans arent allowed to use one or two handed swords. So choose all that and load up the game.

Heres what I know about the different classes. Take it as you will:

Druid: They are decent at damage, and are spell casters. They have the best buffs(spells put on people to help them out.) They can transform into a bear to fight, a cat to run (and go invisible, and a mongoose to swim. From what I hear they are fun classes to play due to the all around-ness of them.

Hunter: A distance fighter. You can lay traps, run fast, and do a lot of other things. These are mostly ranged fighter and are only ok at hand to hand. You can train almost any beast to be your pet and run around with you.

Mage: Does the most damage per second. They are very deadly and kill things very quick. The only problem is they can only wear cloth armor, so if you get a few hits in on them, they are dead.

Paladin: Alliance only. They are a combination of warrior and healer. They are very hard to kill. A lot of players complain at their ability to shield themselves while they heal, but they are not impossible to kill.

Priest: Major healers. That is mostly what they are used for. Very good for groups, but not very good soloing at lower levels. There is also the shadow priest, which can have the most damage in a short amount of time.

Rogue: I think this would be the most fun to have a high level in. They are very high damage per second, and can stun people leaving them unable to do anything. They can turn invisible and walk by people, guards, etc. So sometimes they will show up in opposing factions cities and take out a few people then disappear never to be seen again. Kind of slow, when you turn invisible you go 50% of normal speed.

Shaman: They attack fast, do a lot of damage and can heal themselves and others. This is the Paladin counterpart for the horde. They can lie totems which add buffs to themselves and party members. They are hard to kill and do level fast. I feel that they have the best talent in the game called windfury which gives an extra two attacks.

2. Starting Playing:
You will be in a starting location. Find the people with Yellow !s above their heads. Yellow exclamation points above peoples heads mean they can give you a quest. Green ?s are flight paths, but Ill talk about that later. Right click him to talk. You will get a quest to go out and kill some things. (Hitting L will bring up your Quest List) Do it. Once you kill something right click it. A box will show up with what they had on them. Left click the items and they will go into your backpack. (Holding down SHIFT while right clicking on the corpse will auto-loot everything they had. It saves some time) Kill the number you need to and return to the same person that gave you the quest. (the minimap in the top right corner shows a yellow circle on everybody that you have completed a quest for. Also there is a Yellow ? above their heads.) Now run around and find all other quest givers and complete the quests. Along the way you will find armor and new weapons on the beasts you have killed. Some of these items your class cant use. For example a priest can not equip mail gloves. Hit C to bring up your character menu. Drag these items to the appropriate places and they will become equipped. I will talk about items later Complete these quests quickly. Once you get to about level (lvl) 7 find the closest city. If you are Tauren, head north to ThunderBluff. If you are Orc or Troll head north to Orgrimmor. If you are Undead go to Undercity (I think you will have to go east. If you are alliance, kill yourself and restart the game as Horde. You will be able to find better weapons and new quests in the cities.

3. Leveling up:
This is essentially the point of the game. I loved the scenery when I was a lower level, but I enjoyed the game the most once I hit about level 20. You are absolutely nothing in the game until you hit this level. You can not make instance or dungeon runs, you cant fight other people(and stand a chance), you dont make enough gold to be able to do anything fun, and your level in mining, herbalism, and skinning sucks because you arent strong enough to fight the monsters that surround your mines/leather/herbs. My suggestion is enjoy the scenery, but get through to atleast level 20 as quickly as possible. Just like in Diablo, you level up by getting experience points. You get experience points in one of three ways. 1. Discovering new areas, 2. Killing monsters close to your level, and 3. By questing. Discovering new areas gets only 50-300 xp per discovery. This will be nothing compared to killing creatures and completing quests. Some people believe that killing creatures is a faster way to gain experience than questing, and others think the opposite. I go for somewhere in the middle. Most quests require either traveling or killing creatures, so I always kill things on my way to quests and kill things during quests. I find that this is the best way to gain experience. Some quests give you insane amounts of XP, so those are defiantly worth doing.
