Only join instance groups if you're willing to commit the time. Leaving in the middle of an instance can be viewed as rude. If you have a good reason to leave, apologize and explain the situation before leaving; your party members will be more understanding that way. If possible, try to help find a replacement. Also, be honest in your explanation. Saying "I need to go to bed" then staying online for another hour is an easy way to get on someone's ignore list.

If you see somebody engaged in combat very close to a resource, it is quite possible that she means to access that resource when she's dealt with her enemy (or she was accessing it before she was so rudely interrupted); in the case of a quest item or a treasure chest, it is practically certain. It would be very much "Not Nice" of you to scoot in and take advantage of her preoccupation by glomming onto the resource, especially if the situation requires a deal of work to get to the resource (a number of guarding mobs, for example); she's earned access and you haven't.
This is one form of "ninja" behaviour, and is not only extremely un-nice but also a good way to earn a bad reputation. Nice players profit from their own work and let others profit from theirs. It may seem silly to ask someone in combat whether she means to mine that silver vein, but most people will appreciate your courtesy. Or -- this is even nicer -- you may help her kill the mob and go from there. She may share the resource with you, or not be interested in it at all.

Being nice can be touchy in contested territory. If a member of your faction is being camped by enemies, by all means, help them out! When it comes to working with the opposing faction - be cautious. If you're helping a member of the opposite faction and the two of you are beating on a strong enemy - and you end up with less health and mana than them at the end of the fight - they may see this as an opportunity to get an easy kill, despite the fact that you were helping them. As soon as the enemies are gone, heal yourself quickly so as not to give them that opportunity, and if they try it anyway, be swift and merciless against their attack and make sure they're sorry for being so ungrateful!

Keep your cool if you have a member in your group who does not know what he or she is doing. Rather than yelling at them, help them understand what to do and be polite. Who knows, maybe today's noob will be tomorrow's legend!
